Microsoft launched its Silverlight video player with partners including CBS, HSN and WWE.
CBS which will use Silverlight video on a site dedicated to its Sept. 16 Emmy Awards broadcast; and “ET” will introduce Silverlight on a micro-site offering interviews, red carpet coverage, make video mash-ups and streaming of the “ET” after-party.

Sony announced the launch of a video-sharing site in Japan. Sony will closely monitor for copyrighted material. Japanese TV networks forced YouTube to remove 30,000 video clips last year due to copyright infringement. The site offers a clean environment for advertisers, relative to the largely unmonitored YouTube site.
