Apple announced a major overhaul of the iPod and slashed the price of the iPhone. Upgrades to the iPod include more storage, bigger screens, and a new ‘iPod Touch’ model featuring the iPhone’s multitouch interface, built-in Wi-Fi and the Safari Internet browser, and ability to play YouTube videos.

In a new venture with Starbucks, Apple will allow iPod Touch users to wirelessly download any song playing in a Starbuck’s coffee house, or retrieve a list of the last 10 songs played in the Starbucks store. The new service will launch in early October and reach 25% of the company’s WiFi-enabled stores by spring ‘08.

Apple is also updating the iTunes music store to allow users to buy songs wirelessly.

Apple has sold more than 100 million iPods to date and is on track to sell one million iPhones by the end of September. The iPhone outsold all other smartphones in July.
